Position Summary: Reporting to the National Director of Philanthropy, the National Manager of Grants and Foundation Relations will oversee the proposal preparation process by writing, editing, research and proposal management. The position will be responsible for writing major grant proposals and reports, providing standard language templates/updates, and identify opportunities for joint grant writing between National and Regional offices. Lastly, this position oversees prospect research, ensuring that there is a strong pipeline of grant making opportunities, primarily focusing on the National office. This position will play a pivotal role in raising the $10M needed to launch BUILD’s bold new initiatives over the next 3 years.
In addition to writing grants, He/she will also be responsible for the production of high quality letters of intent (LOI’s), grant reports (including budget preparation), marketing materials, and other development communications as needed to help maintain and increase the diversity of BUILD’s funding portfolio. This individual will help maximize the organization’s ability to pursue new opportunities within the philanthropic sector while leveraging relationships with both current and new funders.
The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with excellent written communication skills who has the ability to multi-task and adhere to internal and external deadlines.
Grant Writing, Reporting, and Copywriting
Research, write, and copy-edit foundation and corporate letters of inquiry, grant proposals, grant reports, briefings, and associated documents as directed
Support the CEO & National Director of Philanthropy in the cultivation of new national funders
Manage the funder reporting calendar for National and Regional Offices
Cultivate, manage, and steward relationships with the organization’s portfolio of foundation donors
Create new and compelling content that highlights BUILD’s mission and impact for both grants and communications materials
Work collaboratively with BUILD’s regional grant writers
Provide copywriting and editing for external communications, include digital campaigns, webpages, collateral materials, Op-Eds and white papers in collaboration with the Manager of Communications
Track and maintain the proposal pipeline in Raisers Edge
Accurately record all moves management activities for foundations and corporations in a timely manner
Maintain accurate records of donors and prospects, and also of development activity
Development Team Member
Develop a national grants calendar, and assign grants, and monitor deadlines
Oversee writers and contractors on the grants and communications team
Assist with planning and executing donor site visits
Play a leadership role in cross-regional training and sharing best practices, particularly for our Monthly Development Team meetings
Support Development and Program Team with events as needed
Provide other administrative support and handle special projects as needed
Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred, preferably in Writing, English, Journalism, Public Relations or closely related field.
7-10 years of related experience with demonstrated success in cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts from foundations.
Familiarity with the philanthropic and broader donor community both nationally as well as in BUILD’s regional markets.
Demonstrated knowledge of organizational budgeting and/or creation of grant proposals and report budgets.
Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, Telosa, Sage Fundraising 50 or other CRM software is highly desired
Experience in marketing and communications a plus
Background in youth-serving nonprofit preferred
