Welcome to the new AFP Online Mentoring Program. This program has been designed for members who are seeking short-term advice on a fundraising topic, such as how to start a simple bequest program, or what would be the best career move after being an annual fund director. This program will help you find an experienced member of AFP with the expertise you need.
The program is not intended to provide free consulting services, but rather a way to have questions answered by a member who knows about the topic and is willing to help provide you with suggestions. Please read and follow the simple and short instructions below.
How the Program works
If you are a mentee and are seeking advice,
Step 1: Click the tab below, “Find a Mentor” and select the key words for the topic(s) about which you are seeking help. You will then see a list of available mentors who fit your request.Note: if you are seeking a local mentor, please go through your AFP chapter. This program is for individuals seeking a mentor for your particular topic or industry area.
Step 2: Select the mentor you would like to work with.
Step 3: You will be directed to the short Mentee Registration form. Once you have filled out the form, you will be able to access all of the information in order to contact your mentor. It will be up to you to make the first contact to that individual, by email, requesting that he/she be your online mentor and what you would like to know. Note: You may also register by clicking on the tab below, “Become a Mentee”.
If you are a mentor, you will fill out the form in the tab below: “Become a Mentor”. Once you have registered, your information will reside in a database that is organized by keywords that you have identified in both the “Areas of Expertise” field, location AND in your profile. You will receive an email thanking you for becoming a mentor. When a mentee requests help about a topic you have identified, the mentee will be able to open a list of mentors which will include your name. The mentee will select one or several mentors. It will be up to the mentee to make the first contact. Please respond as quickly as possible to a request from a mentee to let them know if you will be available to advise them and how you wish to proceed.
It’s that simple!
We hope you will find this program to be useful. If you have any questions or problems, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
